TRAKTOR users – finally some good news? #TuesdayTipsLive

TRAKTOR users – finally some good news? #TuesdayTipsLive

– Warm welcome to Tuesday Tips Live from Digital DJ Tips with me, Phil, here in the Digital DJ Tip studio. It’s awesome to have you here. And if you are looking
at your screen early on and thinking what’s the controller. It’s a Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3. And that means we’re
talking Traktor today, because there’s been a big, kind of, what’s the word I’m looking for? Concern, concern’s the word. There’s been a lot of
concern about Traktor. It’s one of the biggest
DJ platforms out there. And many of you use it and
yet it’s had all kinds of ups and downs in the couple
of months leading up to now. Leading to us, just a
few weeks ago, saying, We can’t recommend it anymore
for people coming into DJing because there’s so much turmoil going on in the Traktor world. Well, there’s lots of
developments going on at Traktor and I for one, I’m very very pleased to be able to stand here and
give you some updates today, give you some exciting inside information, give you some stuff that maybe
you haven’t heard before. So if you are new to all of
this, this is Digital DJ Tips. We are on Facebook. We’re on YouTube. We’re on the Global DJ Network. We are the people behind,
“Rock The Dance Floor”, the number one selling book
on Amazon, on how to be a DJ. We have DJ courses, we have DJ schools, we have all kinds of
stuff that you can buy but this is free. This is us once a week going
live on all those channels to give you a massive dose of DJ. A shot in the arm of DJ stuff
to keep you enthusiasticans to keep you well up to
speed with what’s going on and today it’s all about Traktor. It’s about this little
baby I’ve got down here. Oh, that’s the wrong view. This little baby I’ve got down here. The Traktor Kontrol S4. There’s the S3, just been released. There’s a new S2. There’s lots of harbor out
there for Traktor, the software. Anyone remember this? I’m just trying to get
you the right picture. There we go. Anyone remember this one here? There we go. I knew I’d get there in the end. This is Traktor Scratch
and this is 13 years old. Can you believe that? It’s come a long way as Traktor since then but the last little while
has not been too hot for it. By the way, this link here, you’re gonna wanna know about that. So just remember, djtips.co/tricks. The last few months have
not been hot for Traktor. The poor platform lost
a lot of its developers and basically things were
looking really rough. So anyway, I’ve got some news today about what’s going on with the platform and I think you’re gonna
find it to be something that is good if you’re a Traktor user. So, that’s what we’re
talking about today, Traktor. If you’re not a subscriber, if you’re watching this on the replay, if you’re watching this on YouTube and you’re thinking,
get to the point, dude. This is a show. This is me here for half an
hour with you guys and girls. I can see loads of comments coming in over on the comment cam, already. We’ll get over to you in a minute. This is a show, so you
should be joining us live. It’s a bit, unless you’re a
regular to be honest with you, watching it on YouTube
afterwards, little bit boring, you’re missing out on being
able to just chat live with us. That said, we will
answer all your comments. So that’s what this is all about. Hit the subscribe and the bell and all that stuff on YouTube. Follow us and make sure you allow Facebook to show you our posts first,
if you’re over on Facebook and then you get to watch these live. Right, we’re talking Traktor. Why are we talking Traktor today? Very, very simple. They’ve just uploaded to their servers, so everyone can get on
board with Traktor 3.2.1. Traktor 3.2.1 is the latest
version of the software and it brings a lot of new things. So number one, it brings
Catalina Compatibility. So if you’re a user of
a Mac, like I am here and you want to update to Catalina, well, if you wanna use Traktor,
it’s going to work now. Although there is a caveat
around the music app. We’ll talk about that in a minute. It also works with the
new Traktor Kontrol S3, which is hitting stores right now. Our reviews of that is
coming up very, very soon. So keep an eye out for that. There’s improvements to how
it handles key, musical key with Master tempo and stuff like that. So if you found that to be
not quite as user friendly as you’d like it to be, it’s been fixed. There are improvements
on this little baby, the Traktor Kontrol S4,
which always good to have. There’s a couple of little
improvements at the, if you accidentally hit
the external button, which will switch to an external
input, it now won’t work if you are playing
something on these decks. So you can’t accidentally, you know, you’re going for the gain
control, you hit external, everything goes quiet. That’s been mended. A couple of other little
fixes on this as well. The way the pitch faders work, when they’re in relative
mode, is different. So it’s just a little tweak
there to go back to how it was on the Traktor Kontrol S2,
which is a great thing to have. For people who upgraded to this, we didn’t like that functionality. So there’s some changes going on there. The Unicode thing has been fixed, people. Anyone who’s used Traktor with iTunes, getting their playlist in there will know that all the Unicode
characters, in other words, like non-standard alphabet characters, come in all mangled up. Well, that’s all been fixed. And if you’re searching
your tracks by color, ’cause you can color code
two tracks in Traktor, that’s all we fixed as well. And the looping code, if you use a looping coder over on your Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk2 and you have noticed that it’s not working how it used to with the
latest update to Traktor, that’s been fixed as well. So lots and lots of things
is going on in there, which is a good piece of news,
anyway for Traktor users. But there’s more as well. And the reason there is more is that I got to speak at ADE, at
the Amsterdam Dance Event, last week, I got to hang
out with the Traktor team, we sat in a bar, we kind of like, we had
a man-to-man, one-to-one, you know, what’s going on? What can we do to help? This is what we feel,
this is what you feel, let’s see where it’s all going. And I had a really nice, honest,
long chat with those guys and their heart, I gotta tell you, is totally in the right
place with all of this. I’m gonna have to tell
you that, it really is. And I’ve got some
information to share with you that they shared with me, which
I think will just calm you. It will just put you at rest,
if you’re a Traktor user. So we’re gonna move on
to that info in a second. By the way, also today,
you might have seen, when I accidentally
pressed the wrong button to show you it, also today, we’re gonna be telling you
about a very special offer where you can treat yourself to DJ tricks and also I have for you, and that’s the URL, for
the tricks, by the way. And also I have for you today, the winners of the competition. We had a DDJ-200 competition and Beatport Link six-month subscription. We’ve got two winners of that. I’ll be announcing those
at the end of this, Tuesday Tips Live. Phew, we’re gonna be busy. Right. We’ve just talked about
the Traktor update, I’m gonna head over and get your comments and then I’m gonna talk
to you about some insights I gained from the Traktor team when I was talking to
them at ADE, last week. But as I say, let’s head over
to the comment cam, right now. So people, really you are very busy here. I’m gonna get drinking my water. You’re very, very busy here with comments. So first, just a few hellos. Hi to Steve and Danny and
Keith and Trevor and Ron, who says here we go, Phil. Hello. Hi to Leroy and to DJ Ill from Nigeria. Manico in the Bronx. Jeremy, is there going
to be a new Z2 Mixer? Z2 Mixer, not that we know
of unfortunately, Jeremy but we have got hardware news. I’m not a Traktor user, but
it’s finally good to hear some good Traktor news, says James. That’s very charitable of you James, that’s what we like to hear. And Timothy says, I’m excited
about good Traktor news. Yeah, well that’s what
we’re here to bring. It’s a good news day, today. Good news Tuesday. We got Monday out the way,
let’s share good news. There’s a reason we don’t have Monday tips on Digital DJ Tips. It’s good news, good
news Tuesday for sure. All right then, Danny,
I still love Traktor. A lot of love out there for Traktor. Smart playlist? says Psychrobatic. Nice name. Not that we know of at this stage. Hi, says Michael, Yay for Traktor, I’m in. And Michael says, Good
morning Phil, from The Rock. So, I don’t know what
Rocky mean there, Michael but Good morning. We’re on a rock, the Rock
of Gibraltar, anyway. So all right then. So let’s just get a couple
of like more serious comments going on now about Traktor,
this is from Christian. Christian says, I wish the
S4 was larger like the D2, I hope they add an external
screen, as an add on. It was fun to use, don’t get me wrong. I like the planned bug
fix for the input switch not killing the music. So that’s cool. So what kind of controller is that? The platters spinning are cool, says Kyle. I’ll put it back on for you. Have another look, Kyle. There it is. The Traktor Kontrol S4, Mk3. And yes it’s got motorized platters. Nice little controller, so there you go. All right then. It looks kind of sexy, says DJ Dash. All right then. I’ve been a Traktor Kontrol
user since the S4 came out, future months will decide
if I stick with Traktor or change, says Eric. Well, there you go. Maybe some of this news is
going to help you, Eric. This news is nothing new. Traktor needs to add support
for the XDJ 1000 Mk2, says Michael. Well, the news is kind of new but yeah, I hear what you’re saying, that’s the news you want to hear. I had some time with Traktor but I thought it was heavy
on my system, says DJ Willy. So thanks for that
feedback there from you. I have some loudness problems
on my S2, not loud enough. The trouble with controllers
being powered by USB is, that’s the same with all of them, there’s only so much power
in the USB cable, Paddy. So it’s not just Traktor,
that’s limited too on that one. Hola from Orlando Florida, did we get the smart playlist suggestion? Not yet but that seems
to be the number one, that most of you are asking about. It’s been three years since they said it was gonna be implemented. I’ve since left and I’m trying
to sell all my Traktor gear. says Michael Well, you know, it’s your
choice to do these things, we won’t try and persuade you otherwise. You basically have to
go where the features that you want are, don’t you, people? I hope they recode Traktor Pro3, to put streaming services
into it, says Colin. Remember they have got
SoundCloud in Traktor DJ but maybe that will happen at some point. Mark One says, what did I miss? You missed an update on Traktor 3.2.1. However, we have put it on
the website already, Mark. So you can you can check
out what’s new in Traktor over there, on the website. Traktor users would really
be excited with the new S8 with motorized jogwheels. Yeah, a few people have asked that. Over the time we’ve been
asking these questions. I got your book for my
birthday, says Felix Oh, that’s nice of you, Felix. This is the book, by the
way, “Rock The Dance Floor”. I’m reading at the moment, great book. Thank you very much. If you joined Digital DJ
Tips at djtips.co/join, djtips.co/join, we will give you a download version of the book, people. So if you wanna just go and
have a look at that book, you can do that there. All right then. I hope the Traktor news is good because I might be on my
way to another platform, says Big Buddy Noc, over on YouTube. Well, I will tell you the
outcome of my conversation with Traktor it in a minute, people. Can the light on the
jogwheel be turned off? I’m not sure actually, Ashley. Maybe it can. I’m not a Traktor user
but I had a representative from Native Instruments with
me in the club, last week, who told me it would be worth looking into even though I use Rekordbox at the moment. Well, wouldn’t be doing
their job if they didn’t, would they, Armando? But thank you for sharing that with us. And my team is saying
download the book for free. They even given you a link there, people, djtips.co/join, so thank you, team. Right, we are talking
Traktor today, people. The reason we’re talking
Traktor apart from the fact that we happen to have the
lovely Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, with these motorized platters,
all set up down there. But the reason we’re talking Traktor is that we have got a Traktor update that went live today, Traktor 3.2.1. We have an article on the
website, I think they’re about to put the final links on their website. When they’ve got them,
we’ll put them in there but you’ll be able to get it from the Native Instruments
site or from your Updator, Traktor users. But I also wanted to just share
the vibe I got from Traktor when I was with them, last week. As I said to you earlier,
I was ADE, last week, the Amsterdam Dance Event. And those conferences are great ’cause I get to meet the people that I work with all year round, remotely. And one of the people I
met was Pagim from Traktor and a few of the other
Traktor team as well. And we talked all about
where the platform’s going. So I wanted to share with you a few things that I picked up from them then, which will put your mind at rest, I think if you’re a Traktor user. So number one, the
Traktor team are operating far more independently from
the rest of Native Instruments than they used to and they actually seem to quite like the idea. This idea, if you remember
when Native Instruments laid off 20% of the workforce,
a couple of months back, they touted this big idea of One Native. We’re gonna integrate
everything we’ve ever done, we’re gonna make it all work together. It’s gonna be this
awesome, amazing platform that everyone’s gonna love. And we just read it and went, no. That’s the last thing we want. Just mend Traktor, get Traktor to work. We don’t care about the race with DJs and Traktor wasn’t even
mentioned in that press release, which again, big alarm bells people. So anyway, I asked them directly about it. and they said, well, the thing is, they are doing this big One Native thing for everything else. We, excuse me, we are being
left to kind of develop Traktor like we’ve always wanted
to with a bit more freedom. So that was good news. And they seem genuinely happy that that was gonna be happening. So this One Native thing
doesn’t appear to be, you know, they’re not
trying to fix Traktor in with all the other stuff and you buy one license for the lot or anything you might be thinking, Traktor is developing more independently than it has in the past. Which I think can only be a good thing. The second thing is that, you know, I said to them, guys, no
one knows what you’re doing, you’re not in touch,
you develop privately, you develop away from everyone else. And then you kind of release
things, every now and then, not often enough, no one knows
the motivation behind it. No one knows what you’re
struggling with behind the scenes, no one knows where you’re going. So no one can share in
the journey with you. We’re just seeing the end result and if the end result isn’t
exactly what they wanted, people are upset. And they’re like, we know, we know, we’re gonna try our hardest
to be a lot more open about this stuff. We’ve kind of had our
hands tied in the past, but we know that’s got to be
the way we go, going forward. And I took them at face value for that. They were sincere about that. So I think that’s going to happen. Now, as far as updates, your
beloved Traktor gear go, such as the S4. Well, the thing that we announced today, the 3.2.1 upgrade, which
had a load of fixes in it, is something that’s
gonna happen more often, according to the Traktor team. They’ve realized that
rolling out one or two big soft software updates
a year, doesn’t roll, doesn’t roll, nowadays. People want more than that,
they want stuff when it’s ready. So they’ve promised that
they’re gonna be rolling out a lot more updates
to the Traktor ecosystem and a lot quicker and
they will be smaller. There’ll be a few things,
there’s an update. A few more things, there’s an update. Few more things, there’s an update. And the idea is you see
constant improvement to the platforms and when things break or when things change, the
fixes will be there fast. Now people said, people defending Traktor, a lot of people love Traktor, have said, look, it’s not broken, so why fix it? But that doesn’t work in today’s world because everything else
changes around you. hardware changes,
operating systems change, streaming services, the things
you can interact with, change and if the software doesn’t
keep up, iterating once a year, software years are like dog years, right? One year in software is like seven years. So, you need more regular updates. Well Traktor have said,
it’s going to happen. There’s going to be more
regular updates to Traktor, that’s what they told me at ADE which I think is really good news. So I’m saving the best till last. This is the Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, the Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk3,
came out at the same time and the Traktor Kontrol S3,
which is a brand new controller is just coming into the shops this week. We’ve got one on its way to
us now, we’ll be reviewing it. It did appear like that
was gonna be the end of Traktor hardware, no more,
because the Traktor hardware team had been quite, you know, it
was quite public knowledge that there’s a lot of them left, a lot of them were in
part of the 20% who left and Traktor looked like, there weren’t gonna be any more hardware and we kind of thought, well,
they need to license Traktor to outside gear, anyway, get it working with other people’s gear anyway which is kind of a good thing but also no more Traktor hardware that’s another alarm bell, right people? So without giving you any
concrete details, dates or names or anything,
the Traktor team said, look, just because we
can’t develop hardware, we’re unlikely to develop hardware, like this is developed in-house, right? Everything about this was
in-house, which is expensive, hard to do, lovely hardware, and I think no one can
criticize Traktor hardware. Very, very nice gear but
very expensive to do. Now everyone else from
Apple with their iPhones down through most of the DJ companies, they design their own hardware but it’s mainly third party
factories to their quality specs and so on. And it works, right? If it’s good enough for your iPhone or good enough for all
the other DJ companies, why not do it in Native? Now, I don’t know very
much about manufacturing but the sense I got from
the team there is that they can develop hardware
much more cost effectively, if they develop it in that way. And it’s not quite so controlled ’cause Native Instruments
is, we got to be honest, a controlling company. If it’s not quite so
controlled, they design it, they get it out to a factory,
they get a prototype back, they check it, they love
it, they order a few, do a production run, get it out to people, that’s what most companies do, it’s how they manage to get
hardware out there, quickly. And I’m guessing in a
more cost effective way than Traktor do with their hardware. But it looks like that
might be a path forward for Traktor hardware. So, we might see more
hardware coming quicker than you might imagine now for Traktor and it’s just the way
they make it changes. At the end of the day, the
hardware is gonna do the job, it’s gonna be awesome. Everyone from the biggest DJ companies, to the biggest phone companies,
to everyone else, nowadays, it’s mainly farmed out to
other, even to BMW and people they don’t make their own cars anymore, they will go to factories to be made. It’s a design and a marketing company. I don’t think there’s
anything wrong with that. And if that’s the way that
Traktor didn’t operate in the past, as I say, I’m
no expert on this stuff. But it appears to be
the way they’re thinking about operating in the future, you might see more
Traktor hardware coming. So we’ve gone from, we don’t think there’s gonna
be any more Traktor hadrware, to yes, there is and
who cares how it’s made, it’s gonna be awesome. We’ve gone from software
getting updated very, very slowly to updates
coming more quickly. The team have promised to be more open. It looks like Traktor has got a freer rein within the big native issues
monolith, to do its own thing. And they’re gonna stay more
in touch about all of this, which I think, isn’t going
to convert anyone new but it’s a people who are
already Traktor users, it’s reassuring that
that’s what they saying. And as I say, they were sincere about it. Their hearts are all in
the right place about this They want it to succeed as much as anyone and the only thing of course
that can trip it up is if Native Instruments continues
to find more and more problems and they have to make more cuts. and then where are they gonna be? Well, none of us have got a crystal bull, not least the Traktor team themselves but I came away thinking, Traktor’s got maybe a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, now. And today’s news, the
3.2.1 update seems to be a bit of good news
there for Traktor users, it might just herald the
start of something new. So anyway, we like to be optimistic here. It was lovely to catch up with their team and hear their side of it. They are looking forward
to hopefully doing better for you, Traktor users out
there, in the near future and then further on
with their bigger plans. I just wanted to report that
to you cause I’m back from ADE and I’ve got all that news and the update to the Traktor
software was a good excuse for me to share that with you. So that’s what we got with you, for you about Traktor, I’m gonna
head over to your comments and get more Traktor
talk going on in a minute for those of you that
wanna hang around for that but I did promise you
two things, two things. Number one was, the
winners of our competition. We had a competition to win a DDJ-200, where’s my DDJ-200? There it is. This little thing here. Let’s put it on the big
screen so you can see it. This little one here,
look how dinky that is against the little
Traktor controller, right? Big controller, small controller. How dinky is that? But no seriously, DDJ-200,
great starter controller, works with your phone and
iPads and all stuff like that. We got a couple of them to
give away, thanks to Beatport and Pioneer DJ. So the winners of that, not only that, but they get six months of Beatport Link, the Beatport streaming service as well. So really good prize. The winners are, can we
have a drumroll, please? Should have got one ready, shouldn’t I? They are Peter Calandra, Peter Calandra and Matthew Alexis, Peter Calandra and Matthew Alexis. An email will be winging its way to you. Thank you to the many
many, many thousands of you who entered that competition
but they are our winners. Peter and Matthew, there is an
email winging its way to you with details that we will need to get your prizes off to you. So well done, you two. Well done for winning that. All right then. Competition out of the way, prize draw rather out of the way. Let’s move on to the other
thing I wanted to tell you about quickly before we then go and get the rest of your Traktor comments. The only thing I wanted to
tell you about was this, Treat Yourself To DJ Tricks. We’ve just launched a
special Halloween offer. We’ve got three mixing courses. We’ve got the Laidback Luke Course, we’ve got Mixing Power
Skills and Mixing Mastery, all of which are extremely
popular courses in our DJ school, and they’ve all got $100 off, right now. So if you want to treat
yourself to a DJ course, to polish up your mixing
skills, then you can do that with our courses, with
$100 discount, right now and for the next few days
to celebrate Halloween. So that is Laidback
Luke’s creative DJ Course, Mixing Power Skills and Mixing Mastery, all at a discount for you. Bag your $100 off by heading over there to those courses, right now. And if you would like the link as to where to get those
courses, there it is. It’s the one I showed you
earlier, djtips.co/tricks, will take you to the discount
page where you can bag your saving on those courses. Right, to end off today
then, back to the cam. We’ll take all your Traktor
questions, Traktor feedback on that news from my conversations with the man on the 3.2.1 update. Over there now, and then when we’re done, I’m out of here, folks. So, let’s do it. So okay, let’s get rid of that
thing on the screen there. There we go. All right then. So Traktor chat. There’s a lot of Traktor chat here. I’m just gonna scroll
back to the beginning of all the people who are
asking about what would change. Michael, there’s over 5000
votes for the XDJ-1000 Mk2 implementation and not
even a reply from the devs, I really hope NI would just say it’s not gonna be implemented instead of leaving the door open. NI, you were saying
you’re gonna be more open, head to that thread and tell
these people what’s going on. This is what they mean
by not talking to them. I’m meaning that most constructively. It could take a few minutes
to do that, Traktor team. So head over there, please and tell people what’s going
on with the XDJ-1000 Mk2. I’ve always felt curious
about trying Traktor, I would like to, says Andres. Well, there you go. Maybe now is the chance. Link to the article, please? Says Rick Dawson. My team will put a link underneath and if they put it in the comments, I might just put it on the screen as well. The article went live a minute ago. So I haven’t got that at hand right now. But my team can probably share that. Traktor, please get Beatport Link. It would be great to use the
stems available in Beatport, says Robert. Do you remember that Traktor
used to have Beatport, people? It did. Traktor used to have
Beatport in its software. It was one of the early implementations. There we go. Just get onto the right page. There we go. Down at the bottom there, you
can see Beatport in the tree. It was a long, long, long time ago. But yeah, Traktor used to be there. So there you go. All right then. Beatport used to be there, I meant. Okay, so the next comment. What about all the layoffs? Well, that’s kind of old
news now, Fuzzy Logic. Traktor team is still going,
they’re still releasing stuff, still talking the talk. So hopefully, the
layoffs have kind of like not stopped everything, dead. That was always our worry, of course. So long time Traktor user here, I’m getting tired of NI
hardware falling behind or not as many options as other platforms. Well, to be fair, the
new hardware, the S4 Mk3, is bang up to date. But yet, a lack of maybe high-end hardware has been upsetting people. But anyway, it looks like
there might be some movement in hardware after all, even
though there was a reduction in the people making in-house. I wish they would collaborate with Denon and incorporate HID with the SC5000. Wouldn’t that be cool, Ryan? But I think few stranger
things have happened. I wouldn’t hold your breath for that. I love Traktor but I need it
to work with the DDJ-1000. I can’t be doing with mapping it myself. It’s a pain to be managed. Pioneer and NI need to work together Well, of course they do on the pro gear. Maybe it’s coming, Paul. I have no insider knowledge on that. A lot of you showing your love. I stand by Traktor, says Dubble. Armando is continuing
the love for Rekordbox. He says, I think it’s awesome. I could just think Pioneer
is the least flexible company hardware and feature wise, unless you buy their top-end models. So, they have love and hate for Rekordbox, there from Armando. Shannon says, I love Traktor,
I wouldn’t use anything else. I recommend the S4 instead of the S3. The latter does not have an effects panel. Yeah, there’s a big gap at
the top of the jogwheels on the S3 for effects. So that’s true, we’ll be
reviewing the S3 very soon. It sounds like
Maschine/Traktor convergence won’t happen then, yes? I never knew it was
happening, frankly, Ronald. I think that was all just conjecture. I don’t know about that, maybe it will. We’ll have to wait and see. The software is great, says Manico. But they need hardware to
complement the software for example, 4-band EQ,
4-band EQ, 4-band EQ or damn sell Traktor to Pioneer DJ. I think you want 4-band EQ
there, don’t you, Manico? And we got that loud and clear. I have used Traktor since the beginning but I hate to say, but it died like disco. I don’t get died like disco. But a few years later they
disco’d, to be honest. And disco is still around, right? I demo’d the 1000 for a
month and the S4 as well. Build and sound quality is better. I would take perceived bad news
about NI business decisions with a grain of salt, says Luis. Well, the 20% of
employees who got laid off didn’t take it with a grain of salt, Luis. But yeah, we hear what you’re saying. All right then. Spotify integration
would make me very happy, says Hello Brookd. I’m loving my S4, Mk3. Not gonna upgrade now after this news, thanks Phil, says Colin. Here to serve, Colin, here to serve. And my team is saying,
congratulations to Peter and Matthew. So there we go. All right then. Crap, not me again. Or not me, again, says Timothy. Timmy. Nevermind Timmy, next time, maybe. Lots of you saying,
congratulations to the winners. Here’s the link, by the
way, if you missed it, djtips.co/tricks. If you wanna take advantage
of those discounts on our mixing courses. It’s actually really good. The Laidback Luke Course
is flying out anyway, but for you to be able to
get $100 discount on it for the next few days, is really cool. All right then. So related tracks and elastic beat grids would make me happy, says Bmac0603 I mean you can kind of get
related tracks in tracks by clicking the magnifying
glass icon, right? But yeah, I’m sure the Traktor
team know what you mean and I do as well there. Bmac continues, I like them
both for different reasons. I know the remix sets
didn’t quite take off but I still see the value in
them, to make your sets unique. You gotta sympathize with
the Traktor team, says James. They’re caught between
a rock and a hard place. On one hand, you’ve got a fiercely loyal but unhappy fan base asking for updates that they’ve wanted for years. But on the other hand,
you’ve got their parent NI and the uncertainty about
the company’s situation, it’s good to hear that
they’re still passionate about Traktor, despite tough times. They are still passionate about Traktor. It’s the absolute truth. That’s one big thing that came
away from chatting with them. So I just want everyone to know that. The Traktor team, I think
you’ve summed up there, James, they’re in a hard place but
they are working hard on it. All right then. I love the stems functionality
in Traktor, says DJ Willy, it opens up a new era for
DJ mixing and blending. If you get a program called Xtrax Stems. Xtrax with an X on the end, Stems. You can actually make
your own stems files, which is quite exciting and it does work pretty well, as well. So Dubble Impack says, lots
of DJ that I meet at my gigs ask me, when are you
gonna change to serato? And I say, never. So there you go. All right then I’m late to the party. What’s the good news? says SOS. You can catch up on the
replay, we’ll be off air in about two minutes, SOS,
and you can hit the replay. I’m new DJ here, says Neah2k11. I discovered you guys recently,
I appreciate the effort. The info is very valuable. Thank you very much for that. Phil, I don’t own a
Traktor controller yet, says Big Buddy Noc. Should I save the extra money for the S4 or save money and get the S3? If you’re serious about
your Djing, get the S4. It does a lot more but the
S3 is a great controller that you probably won’t
outgrow for a couple of years. You can always keep it as a
backup controller, anyway. So, yes my advice on that. Maybe they have to
create a line of command to make the LED around
some jogwheel clockwising, the platter LEDs are available in serato. Don’t really understand that one, David but thank you, anyway. Shows it’s live, doesn’t it? All right then. And finally, the smart playlist, seeing a lot of you’re asking for them. But some of you, Tim especially, saying, Nah, I never needed smart playlists, I feel that it’s my job
to arrange playlists. So there we go. Another view on smart playlist. Phil, says Steve, have a word with NI. We need a four channel Z2 equals Z4 You see the thing about that mixer, I’ve got one here somewhere, where is it? What have I done with it? It was here, it was here a little– Oh, there it is. It was even closer than I thought. The thing about that mixer. Let’s get back in focus. Focus. Thank you. Thing about that mixer. It is a Battle Mixer, right? It’s a Battle Mixer. Battle Mixers tend to be two channel. I hear what you say but that’s probably why they resisted it. They wanted to leave this very
very clean for scratch DJs. But maybe you’ll see a Z4,
no insider knowledge on that, I’m afraid, Steve. The Traktor three is cool but should have been a free
upgrade for Traktor users. Well if they don’t get
any money from people, they can’t put it into buying engine, into making new gear, of course. So it’s a kind of swings
and roundabouts one there. I think we should hope that the
Traktor Kontrol S3 does well because that will give money to NI, to hopefully put back into Traktor and hopefully it won’t be like, when you get a parking
fine or a parking ticket and you think they’re not
spending that money on new roads. They’re spending that
money on something else. If I pay money on the road
for doing something wrong, I want them to spend
the money on the road, so it’s better for me to drive on. I hope that in Traktor, if they make more money
out of the new gear, it goes straight back into Traktor. Let’s hope that that is gonna be the case. Why don’t they make a
controller with everything on it and a pen drive? Cheaper than a CDJ, will Rock. Well, there’s a lot of
development that has to go into making powerful controllers
that don’t need a laptop. You basically need to put a
laptop inside them nowadays because just to make them
work, clunky with a pen drive, not really, doesn’t really cut it in 2020. So I think that’s probably
why BRND, in doing that, I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one but hey, I don’t know, I don’t know. I’m guessing all this stuff. They’re not daft enough to
tell a journalist the names and models of the new gear
that may or may not be coming. They just gave me that kind of vibe and the overall direction
the company’s going in. Right, we’re done. We’ve covered an awful lot here today. Thank you very much
everyone who’s commented. The winners have been
announced for the competition. You can still– Where’s my control? You can still get on
board with our new course. Which is our new discounts on our courses, the three mixing courses
are available, right now. djtips.co/tricks, at $100 off. And we had some good
news about Traktor today, 3.2.1 has been released with
lots and lots of new fixes and features in there. And my conversations with
the team at Traktor indicate that hopefully the corner has been turned. You’ll be getting quicker,
more open software updates. Hopefully more hardware when we thought they might not be more
hardware for a long time. In the black times, four, six weeks ago, whenever it was, when all those layoffs happened at the company. You can read the article
here at djtips.co/traktor321 and a lovely, lovely
comment to end off with, which I’ve never thought before
but I think it’s awesome. It’s from Armando who says
Phil, you’re not a journalist, you’re a DJournalist. I like that Armando and I think that is a good
place to leave off today. Thank you very much
everyone who’s come here for Tuesday Tips Live. Comments, questions underneath
on YouTube, on Facebook and on the Global DJ Network. The team and myself will get
to you on those questions. And meanwhile I’ll leave you with that shot of the Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, with its spinning jogwheels. Till next time, get good, get out there and make the moments.

I also use S8 which was their flagship controller and they have just left us hanging then they cancel the D2 player and still no news on the S8 flagship it was just a shitfest at NI creatied a lot of users having no idea wtf is happening i absolutely love the S8 but recently decided decided to purchase a ddj 1000 because i cant commit to a company that cant commit to its end users who have supported their products and in my case their flagship controller an absolute disgrace and it must of cost NI a lot of users including me .

The launch of a deck that can be incorporated into club-type booths would be perfect. A remake of the D2 please 🙏🏻

When we going to see streaming on Traktor Pro 2 & 3 and on the S4 & S8 ? I love the streaming option, and I'm a long time Traktor user.

The Traktor team really needs to release a bunch of official mappings for popular gear out their ala the Virtual DJ model. This will let people get back to using Traktor on a base level and then they can save all of their special goodies for stuff developed specifically for Traktor.

Man! That was an impressive live stream. I’m still trying to figure out how you displayed the comments in real time. I got back into djing this month after a 7 year break. I bought the s2 just to see how good/bad it is. Tbh, I was very impressed with the software. I think a lot of people want Traktor to be Serato when it offers more at a fair price! Let Traktor be its own thing! The price of Serato alone is ridiculous! Add the fact they have an ongoing subscription is a major turn off for a new end user. I understand the industry is going that route because it helps support the developers create updates faster (which is fine). Overall, I like all 3 major dvs softwares (rekordbox, Serato, and Traktor) but both Traktor and Serato lack a portable DJ controller that has great jog wheels like the DDJ-800. Imagine the s2 with those haptic feedback spinning jog wheels. Anyways, wonderful channel I subbed.

In the videos you say that NI will develop controllers but let them build in eg China. Ok.
In the article you write they will not develop controllers anymore but rather other companies will develop and build them.
    What is correct now?

Hi Phil, just updated from 3.2.1 to 3.2.19 but can't find any info anywhere about this update, even on NI's website??? When launching a Serato update for the first time it tells you what's new! It seems NI want's to keep it a secret. I know you're on the pulse so any news, let me know. Thanks buddy.
